I had a very nice stay at Nam Ou River Lodge. The guesthouse has a very beautiful location with a view on the river. Also ouside there’s a terrace with sunny and shady places with a river view.
The room was perfect, clean and tidy and has a nice atmosphere, also in the bathroom everything was in perfect order. The breakfast was good too.
Mr Mang also runs the Nong Khiaw Adventure Tours agency, which has – I think – the best price / quality ratio. It’s good to know that all money earned by the people involved (boatsmen, guides, agency) come back to community, as other agencies are either international companies or they come from Luang Prabang.

    Beariful views

This place has amazing views! We had the room upstairs on the far end of the corridor and the amount of windows and light in our room was lovely. We were there during really bad rain and we had some issues with the power but so did the whole town. The boy on reception gave us some candles. The family that own it are nice and they own a local trip company aswell. Mr Mang is who runs it. Their trips where really good! Kayaking and waterfall swim, walk through paddy fields and some local villages.

We did the 3 days trek with our guide Sitar and everything was good. We also stayed 1 night at Namou Riverlodge and it was also nice. Trek was scenic even if we did not have chance with the weather (rain and leeches)!

Mr Mang made our time in Nong Khiaw unforgettable and I couldn’t recommend his tour company enough. He was very accommodating, flexible and attentive to our wants and needs and will definitely provide you with an amazing experience of the true Laos. Thanks again!!

We went on this tour and were 9 people total on it. It was a great tour and we got what we paid for, and at ~200.000 kip pp it was a very fair price for sailing on the river, visiting villages, hiking to waterfall, and kayaking on the river (almost 9 hour trip) and much cheaper than with e.g. Green Discovery who charge almost double for the same tour. The food was very nice and the crew brought it from the city, it was traditional omelet, sausages, river weed, rice, bananas etc. for all to share which was really nice and social. We got bottled water to drink. If you are visiting Muang Ngoy for 2 hours as a part of your trip, remember to bring some cash as fees for visiting the cave and/or view point there are not included in the tour.

Nice river view, regular but large rooms

Came here after a long way from Dien Bien Phu, thanks to the guy from the same bus. Don’t even know if he also stayed in the same guesthouse finally, but I was ok about the price and facilities, so I did. The room is basic but clean and large, so it was ok. The owner wasn’t pushy about tours etc., anyway I just walked and relaxed around the village myself. The best thing is a river view, both from the room or from the seats near the river. I’m sure during the high season this place would cost much more. Wi-fi was of adequate quality – not too fast but this is Laos. The center of the village, as well as the boat jetty to Mueang Ngoi, are 500 m along the main street – that’s a minor minus, as most guesthouses I’ve seen were closer. But I think the spaciousness and river view (while the price is still cheap) more than compensates for this inconvenience.

Mr.Mang is a special person, offering a special & personal tour to the area & to his home village. Spent a month in Laos, but the 3 days with Mr.Mang were the most meaningful & the most rewarding. Enthusiastically recommended.
